THE summer heatwave came to an abrupt halt yesterday as heavy downpours and flash flooding hit Wales.

Flash flooding was reported in Port Talbot and Bridgend while the Waterstones bookshop in Swansea was forced to close for a shortwhile due to torrential rain.

On the border Presteigne Bowling Club players were six ends into their friendly match at home to Eardisland when torrential rain drenched the field, making play impossible.

Following a week long spell of searingly hot weather both sets of players could have been forgiven for expecting a dry night.

Instead the heavens opened as the heatwave finally gave way to a torrential downpour which led to the game's abandonment.

Club member David Barrett shared these images of before and after.
