OLYMPIC silver medallist Sam Cross has been ruled out of Wales men’s sevens Commonwealth Games squad due to injury.

The 29-year-old, from Abergavenny, suffered a knee injury during a World Cup qualification tournament in Bucharest.

Cross, who won two senior international caps five years ago, helped Great Britain to the Olympic runners-up spot behind Fiji at Rio 2016.

He has been replaced by Chris Smith, who featured for Wales in the Singapore and Vancouver legs of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.
