DECLAN McManus extended his lead at the top of the JD Cymru Premier scoring charts by grabbing two goals – including the winner – in The New Saints’ hard-fought home defeat of Penybont.

McManus, who now has 16 for the season, scored TNS’ first and third in their 3-2 win at Park Hall, as the hosts stayed 12 points clear over second-placed Newtown.

Chris Hughes’ men are clear in second after beating Flint Town United 2-0 at Latham Park, Aaron Williams and Jake Walker scoring either side of the break.

Flint missed the chance to draw level with Newtown on Tuesday night when they lost an action-packed seven-goal thriller against Caernarfon Town.

Both sides finished the game at the Essity Stadium with 10 men, as the visiting Cofis withstood a Flint comeback to prevail 4-3 and move to within a point of sixth-placed Bala Town.

Caernarfon had been involved in a six-goal rollercoaster at the weekend.

They took a 2-0 lead over Aberystwyth Town at The Oval before the Seasiders rallied to go in front just after the hour.

However, Danny Gosset earned Cofis a point, his goal keeping Aberystwyth in 10th.

Connah’s Quay Nomads, in fifth, are now level on points with Penybont following their hard-fought 1-0 home win over Haverfordwest County, who stay one from bottom.

Paulo Mendes’ goal early in the second half was the difference between the sides.

Chris Venables and Dave Edwards were on target as Bala overcame a spirited Cefn Druids 5-3 at The Rock.

The match between Cardiff Met and Barry Town United was postponed because, according to the league, the visitors were “unable to select a recognised goalkeeper… due to a Covid-19 case in the squad and injury”.
