Two Welsh athletes have finished in the top 10 of the elite men's race at the London Marathon. 

Swansea's Josh Griffiths completed the race is 02:13:39 to finish in eighth place.

Newtown-based athlete Andrew Davies completed the 26.2 mile route in 2:15:36.

Welsh Athletics chief executive James Williams took to Twitter to congratulate the pair.

Around 40,000 runners joined some of the world’s best on the traditional route from Blackheath to The Mall.

Sisay Lemma of Ethiopa, who came third last year, won the men’s race in exactly 2:04.01.

Phil Sesemann, a junior doctor from Leeds, ran a remarkable race to finish seventh in his first-ever marathon. 

Sesemann celebrated his 29th birthday by being the first British man home in a time of 2:12.58.

In the women's elite race, Kenya's Joyciline Jepkosgei took first place in 02:17:43.
