A phone box in Ystrad Mynach has been painted gold to mark the Olympic success of hometown girl Lauren Price.

Price put Ystrad Mynach on the map last weekend, and has since brought an Olympic gold medal back to her home town.

The town cam eout in force to greet Ms Price on her return from Tokyo, where she won four matches on route to securing gold.

Unfortunately for the town and county of Caerphilly, the Royal Mail has confirmed they only painted post boxes gold in celebration of the London Olympics in 2012, and have no plans to celebrate the 2020 Olympic success in a similar way.

However, not to be deterred, volunteers in Ystrad came up with their own celebration., and the gold phone box may not be the last celebration.

According to a post on the community council’s Facebook page, the inside of the phone box is set to be transformed too.

Refurbishment of the box will be fitted with lights and shelving, and while originally it was set to display local art and craft, it may now also display photos and memorabilia of Lauren's journey to the Olympics.
