SKY News is set to host the first TV debate with the Tory leadership candidates vying to replace Boris Johnson. 

The live debate will take place on 18 July and be hosted by Kay Burley. 

The contenders, who will gather at the Sky News studios in West London, will face a series of questions from a virtual studio audience. 

Head of Sky News John Ryley said: “There has never been a more important time to reinvigorate the trust of voters in the office of the Prime Minister.

“This live TV debate on Sky News gives the candidates a chance to reconnect with millions by debating the major issues facing Britain. 

“It presents a unique opportunity to re-engage a disillusioned electorate.”

There are currently eleven candidates bidding to become the next Tory leader and Prime Minister.

They are:

  • Former health secretary Sajid Javid
  • Former health secretary Jeremy Hunt
  • Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi
  • Former chancellor Rishi Sunak
  • Transport Secretary Grant Shapps
  • Trade minister Penny Mordaunt 
  • Former minister Kemi Badenoch 
  • Senior backbencher Tom Tugendhat
  • Foreign Secretary Liz Truss 
  • Attorney General Suella Braverman
