A NEW scheme to alleviate flooding in the village of Penybont has just been completed by Powys County Council.

The village has suffered from regular flooding for over a century and in recent years the Afon Ithon has regularly flooded a number of properties.

Last year the fire brigade and local volunteers spent many hours pumping out flooded houses.

“It was so good to see the whole village rally round to help those whose houses that were flooded and the local fire service has provided wonderful assistance over the years,” said Geraint Hughes, of the Penybont Flood Prevention Scheme.

“Now, at long last, we believe a solution has been found. We are most grateful to Powys County Council and the engineering firm PJ Martin Groundworks for installing a major flood prevention pumping station in the village.”
